What to Bring
A practical packing list for your stay at Tahurangi Lodge.
Sleeping
The lodge provides mattresses, pillows and woollen blankets. You must bring your own sleeping bag or duvet and bed linen.
- Sleeping bag/duvet.
- Sheets/pillow case.
- Earplugs if you are a light sleeper — bunkrooms can be lively.
Clothing
- Full waterproof ski or snowboard jacket and pants.
- Thermal base layers (top and bottom).
- Mid-layer fleece or down jacket.
- Warm hat, gloves or mittens, neck gaiter.
- Goggles and UV-rated sunglasses.
- Warm indoor clothing and slippers or indoor shoes — boots stay in the drying room.
- Spare dry clothes for après-ski.
- Swimwear if using hot pools at Whakapapa Village.
Ski and Snow Gear
- Skis or snowboard, boots, and poles (rental available at Whakapapa).
- Ski pass — purchase in advance online from Whakapapa Ski Area.
- Helmet — strongly recommended, especially for children.
- Ski boot bag to keep wet boots off the floor.
Food and Kitchen
Members bring and prepare their own food. The nearest supermarkets are in Ohakune or National Park — stock up before heading up the mountain.
- All meals and snacks for your stay.
- Drinks — the club supplies tea and coffee only.
- A labelled container or bag to store your food in the fridge.
Toiletries and Personal Items
- Towel/bathmath — not provided by the lodge.
- Toiletries including shampoo and soap.
- Sunscreen — UV levels on the mountain are extreme even on cloudy days.
- Lip balm with SPF.
Useful Extras
- Your lodge key!
- Chains for the car.
- A shovel. No really! Sometimes you need to dig your way in.
- Headlamp or torch — useful for early starts.
- Small backpack or daypack for on-mountain use.
- Cash — some mountain facilities are cash-only.
- Phone charger.
